How coaching with me works
One-to-one, by video, and built around whatever is actually in front of you.
What a session is like
We start with what's live for you this week, which might be a decision you're avoiding or a conversation that went sideways. We slow down enough to look at it properly.
I pay attention to what's happening in the room as well as the story. If your jaw tightens when you mention your co-founder, I'll say so, because that's usually where the useful work is.
Most sessions end with an experiment: something small and concrete to try before we talk again, so you can see what happens when you do the thing differently.
The basics
- 60-minute video sessions, usually every two weeks
- Six-month engagements for executives, with a kickoff and a close-out
- Month-to-month retainers for founders and CEOs who want ongoing access
- Email between sessions when something comes up
- Clients across Canada and the United States
Fees depend on the structure and on whether you or your company is paying. If you'd like to see the numbers before we talk, email me and I'll send them. Otherwise we'll go through them on the intro call, and you'll have everything in writing before you decide.
What leaders bring to the room
Most people come in with one of these, or something close to it.
A conversation you keep avoiding
Maybe it's the argument you keep having with your co-founder, CTO, or VP of Engineering, or the one you've stopped having because it never goes anywhere. We look at what happens in you when it comes up, and at what you actually want to say.
Going from builder to executive
You built the thing, and now you're the bottleneck. Handing off product decisions without lowering the bar takes a different skill from the one that got you here, and it can be learned.
Big calls on thin data
It might be a roadmap that keeps changing as AI does, or a senior hire who isn't working out. We slow the decision down enough to see what you already know.
Carrying the load without going numb
Fundraising and fast growth both put a lot on you. That pressure goes somewhere, and it usually lands on your team or your family first. We work on where it goes.
For you, or for a leader on your team
You're paying for yourself
For founders and executives who want this for their own reasons. What we talk about stays between us. The engagement is six months, or month to month for founders who want an ongoing thinking partner.
Your company is sponsoring it
For a CEO, board, or HR leader investing in one specific person. Sponsored engagements add a short round of stakeholder interviews, three-way meetings with the sponsor at the start, middle, and end, and a brief written summary of themes and progress.
The sponsor sees themes and progress and never sees session content. That boundary is written into the agreement before we start.
What coaching is
Coaching is a working partnership about how you lead and decide under pressure. It assumes you're capable and that the answers are mostly yours. My job is to help you see more of what's going on, in you and around you, so you can act on it.
The approach comes from the Gestalt tradition, which means we work with what's happening in the room as it happens. If your pace changes when a topic comes up, that's information, and I'll point to it. Most of the useful work comes from noticing those signals together, then deciding what to do with them.
I'm completing an ICF-accredited coaching program at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, finishing in March 2027, and I'm on the path to the ICF credential.
What coaching is not
Coaching isn't psychotherapy, and I don't provide psychotherapy to coaching clients. We don't work on mental-health concerns or anything that belongs with a health professional.
If something like that comes up, and it sometimes does, I'll say so plainly and help you find the right support. I keep a short list of people and services I trust for that. I don't coach anyone who is or has been a psychotherapy client of mine or of my psychotherapy practice.
I'm a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario. That background shapes how I listen, but what we do together is coaching.
A 30-minute conversation, free
We talk about what's going on and I tell you whether I think coaching will help. Then you decide. There's nothing to prepare.
